Snowstorm Update

I would like to quickly update everyone on the Townships efforts to recover from the recent historic snowstorm we all just went through. First of all I would like to thank all of the employees and volunteers for their tireless efforts to keep our town safe during the storm. This group includes the South Hackensack DPW, South Hackensack Police Dept., South Hackensack Fire Dept., Office of Emergency Management, and the Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad. In addition to the relentless snow, we faced many significant challenges including the breakdowns of our biggest DPW snow plow/salt spreader truck and also a breakdown of a standard size plow truck. The loss of these pieces of equipment during a normal snow event would be a challenge but not having them during this storm was hard to overcome. However due to the resourcefulness and hard work of our dedicated employees we made the best of a bad situation. The full time DPW employees and a group of dedicated part time DPW employees worked long hours to ensure your safety. During the next week we will continue to improve on the road conditions by any means possible. This could include the removal of snow by dump truck or other means on the streets that could be impassable. I ask for your patience during the next few days as we recover and would ask for you to notify us of any emergent areas of concern.

Respectfully yours,
Mayor Gary Brugger
