2013 Hurricane Season Safety


 Once again the Hurricane Season is upon us. Starting on June 1st and going through till November 30th.  The NOAA Climate Prediction Center has released their 2013 forecast.  This year they are calling for an above normal season again with at least 12 to 18 named storms, of which 6 to 10  could be hurricanes with winds of 74MPH or higher. NOAA estimates 3 to 6 would be categorized 3 or greater. Three storms are predicted to hit the US mainland.

In order to assist you in preparing this year the township has several ways for you to receive information. Besides this web-site the Police, Fire and Ambulance have face-book pages which you are invited to like, the township is also looking into their own face-book page, for now information regarding storms or other emergencies will be on the face-book page of the police dept. there we will have updates as to what is going on.

You can also visit and it is advised you do so www. readynj.gov there you can receive all types of preparedness tips on all hazards including the newly revised Hurricane Survival Guide for New Jersey, you can also follow them on facebook.com, ReadyNewJersey, or on Twitter.com/njoem2010.

While on the go you can also receive alerts via your cell phones by going to NJAlert which is a free confidential emergency alerting system that allows NJOEM to send e-mail or text messages to cell phones or other e-mails during an emergency event/incident, you can sign up at www.njalert.gov.
