Madeline Chirichella Celebrates 100th Birthday

Long time Township resident Madeline Chirichella celebrated her 100th birthday on April 26, 2009.  Born to Mary and Salvatore Rotondi in Hoboken in 1909 Mrs. Chirichella is the eldest of 9 siblings.  She moved to South Hackensack with her family as a young girl where she continues to reside.

Madeline Chirichella Day ProclamationMadeline married Victor Chirichella in 1938; their marriage lasted 59 years until his passing in 1997.  She is blessed with three children, five grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a 6th on the way.

She worked at Goldberg’s Slipper Factory in Hackensack where she retired in 1971.  After her retirement Madeline became one of the 13 original members of the South Hackensack Senior Citizens Club.

The students of Memorial School helped celebrate Mrs. Chirichella’s birthday by walking to her home with gifts and a cake and having a 100th Birthday Party in the street.  The Township Committee also honored her by proclaming April 26, 2009 to be “Madeline Chirichella Day”.

The Senior Citizens Club will honor her on Thursday, June 4th with a luncheon at the Senior Center.
