SHPD Captures Woman Bank Robber
At 4:30pm on March 17 a woman entered the Chase Bank on Huyler St. and handed the teller a note demanding money. She stated that she was also armed. The teller surrendered an unknown amount of money and the suspect fled.
Working with a grainy surveillance video, the teller’s description, and a few digits of the suspect’s license plate Detective Vincent Riotto and Detective Sgt. Robert Kaiser began an investigation. The Union City Police Department was also investigating a bank robbery where the suspect matched the same description. Both departments worked jointly with the FBI and identified the suspect as Aja Carrol, 30, of Cliffside Park.
Riotto and Kaiser arrested Carrol on March 24 and charged her with two counts of bank robbery. During the arrest the detectives also discovered the clothes Carrol was wearing during the robbery.
Police Chief Michael Frew commended both detectives for their efforts and the subsequent arrest.
