Police Uncover Counterfeiting Operation

South Hackensack police foiled a counterfeiting operation which printed thousands of dollars of counterfeit cash in a township motel room.  Radhwan Al-Marsoumi, 26, of Dearborn, MI was arrested on January 23 after he tried to pay his rent using $20 bills that he had printed.  The owner of the Stagecoach motel said the money “didn’t feel right” and contacted the police.

Sgt. Robert Kaiser later spotted the suspect and his teenage half-sister walking along Route 46. Detectives searched his motel room and found a laser-jet printer, ink cartridges, razors, and $1,500 is counterfeit $20 bills.  Al-Marsoumi later admitted to printing more than $6,000 in forged cash.

Kaiser said that Al-Marsoumi would apparently make purchases using the counterfeit cash and then later return the items with a receipt for real cash.  He carried out the scheme in various places in New York and New Jersey.

Radhwan Al-Marsoumi was arrested and charged with forgery, possession of a forgery device, and theft by deception.  He is being held on $40,000 bail at the Bergen County Jail.  His half-sister, Glenda Al-Marsoumi, 19, has not been charged.
