Nasta Promoted to Deputy Chief in Newark Fire Department
Life-long township resident Michael Nasta was recently promoted to Deputy Chief in the Newark Fire Department. Michael began his career in Newark in 1984, progressing through the ranks from firefighter to Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalian Chief. In his new position he is now in charge of creating training programs for the 600+ member department.
Michael’s dedication to the fire service began at the age of 18 when he became a volunteer with the South Hackensack Fire Department. He continues to serve our community to this day. Both he and his father have previously served as Chief of SHFD. Michael has also been a part-time fire instructor at the Bergen County Fire Academy in Mahwah for the past 18 years.
Michael describes the fire service as being very gratifying and compares the relationship with his fellow firefighters as having a second family. Michael’s “first family” is his wife Patty, and children, Rebecca, Sara, and Joey.
