FEMA Opening a Disaster Recovery Center in Bergen County

Starting Sunday (04/29) at 1200 PM, FEMA will open a Disaster Recovery Center at the Bergen County Administration Building, One Bergen County Plaza, Room 460 (The Learning Center) in Hackensack.

A Disaster Recovery Center allows residents and businesses to meet one-on-one with FEMA and other federal, state, and county agencies to discuss their disaster related needs.

The Disaster Recovery Center will be open until 8:00 PM this Sunday and then operate on a daily basis (7 days a week) from 8:00 AM through 8:00 PM until further notice.

Assistance coordinated by FEMA may include grants to pay for temporary housing, home repairs, and other serious disaster related expenses. Low interest loans from the US Small Business Administration may also be available to cover residential and business losses not fully covered by insurance.

IMPORTANT: Residents and business owners who sustained losses during the recent Nor’ Easter do not need to go to the Disaster Recovery Center to register for assistance and are strongly encouraged to apply for assistance through FEMA by registering on-line at www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.

Please refer residents to the New Jersey OEM website for additional information on disaster assistance: www.Ready.NJ.Gov.

FEMA notes that damage surveys are still underway and additional forms of assistance may be designated at a later date.
