History
The South Hackensack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. was founded in 1953 by a group of residents, consisting mostly of firemen. This group of founding members elected officers, incorporated as a non-profit organization, and dedicated many nights to completing First Aid Training. The first ambulance, a used 1941 Cadillac, was purchased from Little Ferry.
The office dedication was held on April 25th, 1954 and service to the residents officially began. The Ambulance Headquarters was stationed in the Fire Department building on Calicooneck Road.

Currently
Since that day in 1954, the Corps has seen many improvements. The Ambulance Building is now located on Philips Ave. adjacent to the Municipal Complex. The Corps. now operated two ambulances to serve the residents of the town. Members also attend extensive training programs to remain Certified Emergency Medical Technicians.
With an increasing call volume and less volunteers, the South Hackensack DPW employees are trained and man the Ambulances during the hours of 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday. The remain hours are covered by the volunteers.
