About SHVAC

The South Hackensack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing the residents of South Hackensack with emergency care. The Corps responds to emergency situations in town to administer emergency medical services, help stabilize patients, and transport patients to medical facilities.

The members of the Corps consists primarily of residents. The DPW employees are also trained and operate the ambulances during daytime hours when manpower is limited.

The Corps also participates in a local Mutual-Aid system, where different towns provide coverage for each other when needed, ensuring that each is continually protected with emergency medical services.

Training

Members of the Corps attend extensive training provided by the New Jersey Department of Health. After completing the 120 hour course they are certified as Emergency Medical Technicians. This certification is valid for 3 years. All EMT's must attend classes for up to 36 hours within the 3 year period to remain certified.

Fund Drive

All services provided by the Corps are FREE! However, we do depend on contributions from the town and residents in order to maintain our equipment and operations. A Fund Drive is conducted annually. Letters are sent out at the end of the year, with a reminder in the beginning of the following year.

All donations are very much appreciated and is also tax deductible.

Donations of Home Medical Devices

Unfortunately the Ambulance Corps cannot accept donations of home medical devices, such as wheelchairs and walkers, due to the liability of possible mechanical failure. Please consider donating these items to the Salvation Army or a local church.
